Make sure you have a COVID-19 PCR test before you fly

COVID-19 PCR testing is mandatory before every flight to give you the confidence to travel the world again. You'll feel safe knowing that every guest flying with us has tested negative for COVID-19.

Depending on where you are flying to or from, your test must be carried out between 48, 72 or 96 hours ahead of your flight departure time. Always check in advance.

Your test can be taken at any government accredited medical facility. Guests departing Pakistan and India must use an Etihad approved medical facility.

Children under 12 and people with severe and moderate disabilities are exempt from COVID-19 PCR testing, though this is subject to the regulations at your destination.

Remember to print your test result as you will be required to present it for validation at check-in. You must present a medical certificate or other relevant document, clearly stating the type of test and the result.

You may also present your test result via the Al Hosn app if you are flying to Abu Dhabi.

If your test is positive or you are unable to present proof of your negative COVID-19 PCR test, you will not be permitted to travel. You can rearrange your flight for free, or cancel and use the value of your flight towards your next trip with Etihad Credit. Read more

The service is available for all guests flying from Abu Dhabi, including guests travelling from another emirate to reach Abu Dhabi airport.

Travel to Abu Dhabi, Dubai and other emirates

You can enter Abu Dhabi if you are a UAE national or resident, or if you are eligible for a visa on arrival. All other visa services are currently suspended.

When you arrive in Abu Dhabi, you must follow the quarantine guidelines in place and self-isolate for 14 days. If you are travelling to another emirate including Dubai, you will simply need to follow the quarantine rules of that emirate. You will only be permitted to travel to another emirate by Etihad Chauffeur, Etihad Express Coach or Airport Taxi.

If you are a UAE resident, visit uaeentry.ica.gov.ae before you travel to submit your passport number and Emirates ID number. You'll receive instant verification of your UAE entry status in line with your residence visa validity.

Quarantine regulations in Abu Dhabi

You will undergo thermal screening and COVID-19 PCR testing when you land at Abu Dhabi airport, this will take some time to complete. This applies to all guests, excluding children under 12.

On arrival into Abu Dhabi you must self-isolate for 14 days. The health authorities will evaluate the most appropriate location for your 14-day quarantine; either at home, in a hotel or at accommodation provided by the authorities. You will be required to wear a medically approved wristband for the duration of your quarantine. The wristband will be provided by the authorities at Abu Dhabi Airport after you clear immigration. You are exempt from having to wear the wristband if you:

  • Are under the age of 18 or over the age of 69
  • Suffer from a mental disability
  • Live in a nursing home or long-term care facility
  • Suffer from Chronic rheumatological conditions
  • Hold a diplomatic passport

You are required to repeat a COVID-19 PCR test on day 12 of quarantine. Subject to a negative test result, your wristband will then be removed on day 14. Children under 12 are exempt from testing unless they show symptoms of Coronavirus.

After landing in Abu Dhabi, you are only permitted to travel to another UAE emirate by Airport Taxi, Etihad Chauffeur or Etihad Express Coach. If for any reason you are unable to travel this way, you will be required to follow standard Abu Dhabi quarantine guidelines.

You can read more about the quarantine guidelines from the links below:

You will be asked to complete a form agreeing to self-isolate and do everything you can to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the UAE. We recommend you complete this form in advance of your trip. Download now.
