Checked bags
Your baggage allowance depends on your route, ticket type and Etihad Guest Tier Status. Different rules may also apply if you're travelling on a partner airline.
Use our baggage calculator, log in at etihad.com/manage or check your booking confirmation email to understand your checked baggage allowance.
Remember to remove all bag tags and stickers that may have been left on your bag from previous trips.
It’s important that you check your baggage allowance carefully before you go, because if you need to pack a bit more, it’s cheaper to add extra bags online before you arrive at the airport.
Book your extra bags in advance and save up to 30%.
The maximum weight per bag is 32kg. If your allowance is more than 32kg, please make sure items are distributed evenly across bags.
You'll be charged an oversized baggage fee of USD $40 – $60 for items larger than our standard baggage dimensions. They must not weigh more than 32kg or be longer than 300cm. Some sports equipment is exempt.
What to pack in your checked bag
If you’re carrying fragile items in your checked bag, let us know so we can affix a fragile sticker. Alternatively, you can purchase a full fare seat for your item if it weighs less than 75kg. Please note we are not liable for any damage.

You can check in as many bags as you like as long the total weight is within your baggage allowance. No single bag may exceed 32kg. If you are flying in Economy to the US or Canada, you can check in two bags weighing up to 23kg each. Excess baggage fees will apply if either bag weighs more than 23kg. Use our calculator to work out the checked baggage allowance for your flight.
Not always. You may need to pick up your bag and check it in again, depending on the route and country you are travelling through. Your agent can confirm when you check in at the airport.
If you have a connecting flight in the US, you will not need to collect your bags if you’ve pre-cleared US customs in Abu Dhabi and your bags have been tagged to your final destination. If you have not pre-cleared US customs in Abu Dhabi, you must collect your bags and complete all immigration formalities when you land in the US. This applies even if your bags have been tagged to your final destination.
Please let us know that your baggage has not arrived before you leave the airport. We’ll give you a Property Irregularity Report (PIR), which you’ll need to track your bags, to organise a delivery or to make a claim in the future.
Track your bags
If your baggage or its contents has been damaged, please let us know as soon as possible. Visit the arrivals desk before you leave the airport, or contact us in writing within seven days. We’ll give you a Property Irregularity Report (PIR), which you’ll need to make a claim.

Yes! You can carry a TV as part of your checked baggage. You will only be charged an oversized baggage fee if it's 40 inches or above for flights to or from all our destinations.
Your baggage allowance may differ on flights operated by our partner airlines. You’ll find your baggage allowance for each part of your journey on your ticket.
If your trip starts or ends in the US, the first airline you fly with will determine the baggage rules that apply for your entire trip; either their own baggage policy or that of the Most Significant Carrier – this is usually the airline operating the longest part of the journey. For instance, if you are flying with Airline X from the US to Abu Dhabi, and from Abu Dhabi to another destination with Etihad Airways, Airline X will determine your baggage allowance and rules.
This is in accordance with the US Department of Transportation's regulations.
If you have booked all segments of your journey on the same ticket, you’ll find your baggage allowance clearly outlined in your booking confirmation.
If you upgrade your ticket to another cabin, your original baggage allowance will still apply.
Please check your previous booking confirmation for more details on how much baggage you can take with you on your trip. And if you need to pack more, remember to purchase extra baggage at manage before you go to save up to 30%.
