Testing and entry requirements

  • If you are a UAE resident, take a COVID-19 PCR test and IgM test 48 hours before your flight departure time
  • If you are not a UAE resident, take a COVID-19 PCR test seven days before your flight departure time, and a second COVID-19 PCR test and IgM test 48 hours before your flight departure time
  • All tests must be carried out at a SEHA or G42 facility in the UAE
  • Test results must be submitted online to your local embassy for verification

Special announcement: Connecting flights from Abu Dhabi to China

As a result of new testing requirements, it is not possible for passengers connecting via Abu Dhabi to China to carry out the required testing in the time specified by the Chinese government. Therefore, guests will be unable to connect to Shanghai via Abu Dhabi until 29 November 2020. Please visit ae.china-embassy.org for more details.

All guests travelling from Abu Dhabi to China must meet Etihad testing requirements according to their UAE residency status. Please read our testing requirements below and ensure that you are able to take the required tests before travelling to the airport. All non-UAE residents must complete a PCR test at a designated facility in the UAE seven days before the flight, in addition to the Chinese embassy test requirements before departure.

You must have a COVID-19 PCR test and IgM test before your flight to Shanghai. Testing requirements differ for UAE residents and non-UAE residents:

If you are a UAE resident, you are required to:

  • Show a copy of your residence visa at check-in
  • Conduct a COVID-19 PCR test and IgM test 48 hours before your departure at a G42 or SEHA facility in the UAE
  • Submit your negative test results to the Chinese embassy for a Health Code, which you will also be required to present at check-in

If you are not a UAE resident, you are required to:

  • Conduct a COVID-19 PCR test seven days before departure at a G42 or SEHA facility in the UAE
  • Conduct a PCR test and IgM test 48 hours before departure at a G42 or SEHA facility in the UAE – you must present your seven-day test result to be able to have your 48-hour test
  • Negative results should be submitted to the Chinese embassy for a Health Code, which you will also be required to present at check-in
  • Present a copy of your seven-day and 48-hour test results at check-in 

You must arrange your tests at one of these clinics, tests from other medical facilities will not be accepted:

  • SEHA testing centre on the Corniche in Abu Dhabi or in Rashid Port in Dubai
  • G42 Biogenix Labs (various collection points)
  • *Home testing is possible from these clinics

You are required to submit your test results to the local Chinese embassy for verification – you will not be accepted for travel otherwise. If you are a Chinese national, the embassy will issue you with a Green Health Code. If you are a foreign national, the embassy will issue you with a Health Declaration Code..

You must present either a Green Health Code or Health Declaration Code from your local Chinese embassy at the airport – you will not be permitted to board your flight otherwise.

Before your flight, you must also complete a Health declaration form. Please take a screenshot of the QR code – a paper copy will not be accepted. This applies to all guests, including children and infants.
