If you book a flight using a combination of miles and cash, you’ll only earn Etihad Guest Miles on the amount you pay in cash.
You will not earn any miles when redeeming a GuestSeat.
You can pay for flights in full with miles or use a combination of cash and miles.
You’ll earn Etihad Guest Miles on flights operated or marketed by Etihad. That means that if your flight number starts with EY, you’ll earn miles.

If you’re an Etihad Guest Virtual Club member, you’re entitled to earn extra miles.

Yes, you can upgrade at the airport using your Etihad Guest Miles. This is called an instant upgrade.
You’ll need to pay using miles only when booking with our partner airlines.
Miles values for connecting routes will be calculated from the origin to the point of transit or stopover and to the destination. Eg. If you’re booking a flight from Sydney to Perth via Melbourne on Virgin Australia, miles values will be calculated from Sydney to Melbourne and Melbourne to Perth.
Unfortunately, Etihad Guest Miles can’t be used to upgrade when travelling with our partner airlines. Please review the terms and conditions for more information.
Bookings can be made using miles with a number of our partners. While American Airlines and Virgin Australia can be booked online, you can also book using miles with other partners via our contact centre. For a full list of partner airlines, please refer to our airline partner spend page.
The miles values listed on the miles calculator indicate one-way values only. Return miles will be double the value of a one-way flight.
To check the number of miles needed for a connecting flight with Etihad, you’ll need to check the miles values for the respective routes of each carrier. Eg. If travelling from Abu Dhabi to Perth via Sydney, you’ll need to check the miles for Abu Dhabi to Sydney under Etihad Airways and Sydney to Perth under Virgin Australia.

GuestSeats are exclusively reserved for Etihad Guest members on every Etihad flight and have fixed, reduced rates. There are a limited number of seats available, so we recommend you book in advance. OpenSeats are all the other seats available on our flights, which can be booked using miles or miles and cash.
